Suburban Villa
Location
Urulikanchan, Pune
Project Type
Residential Architecture + Interior
The goal of this project was to create a simple yet imposing design for a house that was grand in scale but not overly flashy or ostentatious. The design called for a large, well-lit porch that could be used for entering and exiting the house. Upon entering the house through a landscaped courtyard covered with wooden pergolas and glass, one would find a double-height living space that serves as a central bridge, with two bedrooms on one side and the kitchen, dining, and ancillary areas on the other side. The first floor contains two additional bedrooms on one side and a family room and bedroom on the other side, while the upper floor contains a home theatre, gym, and party terrace. On the ground floor, there is a large private party lawn with a gazebo for large gatherings, as well as a private swimming pool and deck attached to the master bedroom on the other side.
The design language for this house is characterised by clean lines and a contemporary look, with white plastered walls, wooden cladding, glass, and dark grey steel as the predominant material palette. The use of steel pergolas at various levels helps to create a sense of partial enclosure and grandeur, while the "pinching" of volumes from low to high and the play of dark and light upon entering the house add to the overall aesthetic. The result is a functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing house that makes a strong visual impact.
