Ozone Mall
Location
Aundh, Pune
Project Type
Commercial Architecture + Interior
Aundh is a neighbourhood located in Pune that was once considered a suburb, but has since become a popular location for residential properties such as bungalow colonies and low rise apartments. Its cosmopolitan atmosphere has attracted many industrialists ( due to its proximity to the PCMC industrial area) and IT professionals (due to the nearby Hinjewadi software district). ITI Road was the widest road and had a great potential for becoming a commercial hub in the future for this area.
When we were given the task of taking up the design of a building that had just started construction, we decided to take it up as a challenge and rework the building keeping the basic framework in place. Some of the key goals we went on to achieve :
Connecting to the street visually and physically by removing all boundary walls and creating a plaza that will seamlessly flow into the sidewalk.
Arranging certain activities along a meandering staircase so that one does not realise the ascent of one floor to access the main showroom level.
Delineating the floors and activities clearly but also creating a cohesive and fluid shopping experience inside the building.
Creating a unified, contemporary façade through the use of Hunter Douglas cladding, louver cladding systems and curtain glazing.
Establishing a brand identity for the building and the products displayed inside including the name “Ozone” which we suggested. The colour scheme and materials were chosen to reflect this identity.
Today more than 20 years later, this building (now houses the largest Crossword book store in India) still retains its unique identity in what has now become a busy commercial avenue of Aundh area.
