Garden Bungalow
Location
Sindh Society, Aundh, Pune
Project Type
Residential Renovation + Interior
The Client’s brief was to revamp an existing Bungalow built 15 years ago into a more revitalised living space with modern facilities to match-up to the classic and elegant style of interiors preferred by the client. There was also a requirement to add a few functional spaces/ facilities into the existing bungalow that blend with the house and do not appear as add-ons
The Bungalow enjoys a large garden in the front of the plot on the north side. Since the Living and Dining spaces flowed into the Patio, which connected them to the garden, it was used extensively in summers to enjoy the evening with family and friends. This was hence extended in length and width. The Living and Dining spaces were spruced with classy furnishing and false ceiling incorporating the air-conditioning system and indirect lighting. To make the patio even more pleasant were introduced an evaporative cooling system hidden in the ceiling and matching it to the existing facade. There is an effective drop of temperature (about 8 to 9 degrees) and savings of about 80% in power consumption.
A terrace garden was introduced above the living and dining room to make it cooler. A personal gym area was added alongside the terrace garden since that space enjoyed the east sun and the foliage of the trees around the house.
Both the bedrooms were redone with the walk-in closets and toilets clubbed together as one space thereby adding more space into the bedroom. The earlier guest bedroom became the study and a more intimate space attached to the living space.
The Kitchen was completely renovated to incorporate more storage and include the latest appliances related to modern lifestyle and creature comfort requirements.
The Watchman’s Cabin was tucked right at the entrance as part of the Entrance Gate without overpowering the beautiful front garden.
