Furniture Mall

Location

Urulikanchan, Pune

Project Type

Commercial Architecture + Interior

Urulikanchan is a town located on the outskirts of Pune, on the Solapur Highway, that is undergoing rapid urbanisation. It has become a shopping destination for nearby villages, with the proliferation of shopping complexes, jewellery stores, restaurants, car and furniture showrooms, and much more.

The design brief for the furniture mall was straightforward: create a pre-engineered structure that could be quickly assembled to house a large space for displaying furniture. Our approach to the exterior was to create a modern, bold architectural style for the façade that would be easily identifiable from the highway. Inside, we wanted to create a pleasant, muted visual backdrop for the multi-coloured items on display. At no point we felt that one should get the feeling of being inside an industrial, pre-engineered shed.

We incorporated a double height space with curtain glazing at the front and a wide, L-shaped staircase to add a sense of grandeur and volume upon entering. The store, sales counters, and owner's cabin were tucked below the staircase to maximise space for display. Overall, our goal was to create a clean, neat, and aesthetically balanced showroom with ample lighting.
