Boutique Hotel

The brief was to renovate a residential hotel built in the 60’s and located in the heart of Pune city. Since most of the guests used to stay for longer durations, the ambience needed to be homely and war, yet spruced up with the modern facilities like air-conditioning, wi-fi, well equipped bathrooms etc., The challenge was to give the common spaces and the individual rooms a completely new and contemporary look without affecting the basic structure of the hotel. 

The front façade was a typical RCC building of the 60’s with arches, concrete jaalis and ledges with residential character to it. The entire façade was changed keeping the basic structure intact. The openings were widened at the lobby level and the upper levels. The entrance steps were widened and a ramp was introduced for easy accessibility.

A covered cantilevered canopy was added to shade the entrance area from the sun and rain. The façade was clad with wooden textured “Shera board” plans to give a no temporary new look to the façade. External lighting of the canopy and the façade was also incorporated into the scheme. 

The entrance driveway was opened up to facilitate fire tender access and revamped to go with the façade design.

The ground floor lobby was completely renewed with Italian marble flooring and large glass openings to bring in ample daylight and warmth to the waiting space. Indirect lighting added ambient lighting to the space in the evenings. The false ceiling incorporated ducted air-conditioning units that reduced visual clutter. The main door was converted Tinto auto-closing glass doors giving it a chic look. 

The rooms were designed with furniture in natural wood and walls painted bright white to give a clean and elegant look. Few elements like soft furnishings, cushions et added bright colours like rust and orange into the scheme. The furniture was designed as standalone units that are ideal for the hotel’s day-to-day functioning. 

The toilets were completely modernised using monochromatic matt tiles to complement the scheme used in the rooms and give it a timeless look and feel.

All modern facilities were incorporated into the scheme like concealed wiring, satellite TV’s, Wi-Fi systems, electronic lockers, CCTV cameras, etc. The corridor walls were spruced with lit picture frames and indoor plants. 

The overall design language was clean lines, functional, modern yet warm and elegant in look and feel.
